PERSONAL UPDATE: What I’ve been up to (and why I haven’t been posting much)

LUSCIOUS LIVING: Pink peonies

Hi Luscious Lifers,

A little note to let you know that my book writing has been coming along pretty well since I’ve been having a bit of a hiatus from everything else.

I’ve mostly set aside the crime novel (about 100,000 words written) which I’m keen on but find psychologically taxing (death and all!) in favour of the attempt-at-humour novel which is much easier to write and is currently at 53,000 words.

This novel started out as something to amuse my friends, based on posts on my personal Facebook page. But it has fictional characters instead of real ones because I can’t stand the potential angst from friends or family thinking they see themselves in it. Relationships are hard enough without someone you like taking offence!

I’m having fun with my writing, most of the time. I’ve found that the only way to be productive has been to block out pretty much every other thing that used to distract me, so my time largely consists of being a hermit and playing tennis. (My tennis, I’m relieved to say, is starting to improve at long, long last.) I could not be more grateful to Mr Luscious for helping me to escape the rat race of my former corporate life to spend my days being creative.

Mr Luscious and I are terrific, by the way, although he’s very busy with his own work, and I’ve shared some moments on Instagram for anyone who is interested, and the occasional link or photo gallery on Facebook (even though FB is horrible for not sharing posts, grrr).

Sorry to those of you who think I’ve fallen off the planet.

I’m here, I’m happy, and I’m writing.

Natasha xx

PERSONAL UPDATE: A writer’s life in the countryside

LUSCIOUS LIVING: A writer's life in the country

Luscious Lifers, new posts are once again largely on hold as I finally, finally, finally try to get back to focussing on writing my books after many months of upheaval re: our house move (back) to Red Hill, and some other personal bits and pieces.

Fortunately, it’s the first day of Spring here on the Mornington Peninsula, so hopefully the sunnier days and blossoming gardens will help get me back on track too. If you’d like to see some snippets from the new house, do scroll through my Instagram pix.

Most days, I’m doing some cooking (expanding my low carb, ketogenic diet options), taking Mabel for a walk or game in the surrounding countryside, learning French and playing tennis. After years of corporate work, it’s absolute bliss to have this freedom, and I can’t thank Mr Luscious enough for supporting my creative endeavours. I am so very lucky and very happy.

I’ve now got five books on the go, at various stages of completion, including a literary murder mystery, a French travel guide, and an attempt at humour. Slowly but surely, I hope they will all find their way to those of you who are interested.

If you’re craving something luscious to inspire you whilst I potter around behind the scenes, please consider going back to the archives on the blog via the Photo Galleries tab, or browse through the myriad boards on Pinterest. For something new, remember to check out Facebook and Instagram where it’s easier for me to post more regularly.

Thank you for all your ongoing support of my little Luscious venture!

Natasha xx

LUSCIOUS LIVING: Here’s wishing you a luscious weekend…

Luscious weekend

Hi Luscious Lifers,

I’m still trying to get my head around the potential house move (fingers crossed an investor makes an offer on the house soon so we don’t have to leave) but otherwise absorbed in getting my books into shape.

We’ve got our quasi-adopted German son, Nikolai here for the weekend, as well as his delightful girlfriend (welcome to Luscious, Jemma!), so Mr Luscious is now making cocktails whilst the roast cooks in the oven. We’ve had lunch, played tennis and had a nap – pretty good so far, no?

I hope you are able to have a relaxing weekend too.

Natasha xx

Ps. Remember to check out the “A LUSCIOUS LIFE” photo galleries via Facebook:

PPS. I’m currently reading The Silent Wife: A Novel by A. S. A. Harrison after starting and stopping about 6 other books. Have you read it? What did you think? And what else would you recommend I read?

LUSCIOUS NEWS: A quick update – February 2015

LUSCIOUS UPDATE: Luscious white house and garden

Hi Luscious Lifers,

A little note to let you know that I’ve been absorbed writing my four books, of which I’m particularly focussed on the novel, hoping to get them into “agent ready” shape.

Unfortunately, we’ve also found out that the house we’ve been renting is being sold, so this is very frustrating. I have enough problem concentrating at the best of times, and now we’ve got strangers coming through the house, boxes to pack, a new home to find, and all the associated expenses and inconvenience.

It’s been a great house, and the owners have been fabulous. But they need to sell and we aren’t interested in buying it, so it’s time to pack up all over again. As I said to some of my friends, it’s move number 35,998 for me, and the sleepless nights have already started as I lie awake writing lists and generally going nuts.

I look forward to the day when we can finally settle into our dream house and never, ever, ever have to pack another box again!

So between “book brain” and “moving house angst”, I’m not feeling particularly luscious. But I hope you are and that you’re still exploring all the old Luscious posts, photo galleries and items I’ve curated in the SHOP, as well as the myriad boards on Pinterest, lovely music on YouTube, and my occasional tweets and Instagram pix.

Feel free to leave me a message to let me know how you’re getting on – it’s weird not interacting with you every day. But I will be back once I learn to find some balance.

Cheers, Natasha

PS. The Luscious blog will be down for a few hours on the weekend of February 28-29, 2015 due to server updates. Thanks for your patience during this time.

PERSONAL UPDATE: Writing time

Literary lusciousness - a pile of old manuscripts via myLusciousLife.com

Luscious Lifers, there have been no new posts recently as I’m in a whirl trying to get my books sufficiently into shape to send the first chapters to an agent.

Sadly, there is a LOT of work to do to make this happen, which is taking my eye off the Luscious blog. I am, however, usually posting something on Facebook each day (and sometimes the other social media channels) so be sure to follow there.

My apologies to everyone I haven’t responded to, but I hope you understand that my brain is a bit diverted!

Cheers, Natasha

LUSCIOUS LIVING: A quick update

Luscious living - Chanel lusciousness - glamorous gifts

Hi Luscious Lifers,

Apologies for the lack of new posts.

I’m trying to get some work done on my novel (not going very well, alas, as I’ve decided it’s all awful!) and organise everything ahead of time for Christmas, so I’m a bit distracted at the moment. You can see some of the things I’m up to on Instagram and Twitter.

So if you’re looking for something to inspire you, please consider the following:

FASHION: Whilst some of the links are broken (thanks to Facebook doing another upgrade, grrr), you might like to randomly flick through some of our fashion editorial collections.

ARCHITECTURE AND DESIGN: If you’re looking for ideas for beautiful homes, from interiors to gorgeous gardens, then you might like some of the posts and galleries in this collection.

HEALTHY LIVING: Follow my progress with my weight loss via a ketogenic diet via the Wednesday Weight blog post series. Start with Week 1 (currently up to Week 6)

FESTIVE ENTERTAINING: We’ve got several boards on Pinterest devoted to Christmas, gifts and entertaining, so do pop by and check them out, and remember to select the FOLLOW ALL option.

MUSIC TO SCROLL BY: Music makes life much lovelier, no? So browse through our “Music to scroll by” posts and let me know some of your favourites too.

SHOPPING: There are several options for shopping, for yourself or family and friends, so start with the index in the LUSCIOUS SHOP for links to the Luscious Gift Guide, my picks for the most luscious brands, and individual shop categories (eg. mens, kids, home). I’m trying to update them regularly so keep popping back.

Thanks for your support, and remember to check out the Luscious page on Facebook too!

PERSONAL UPDATE: A little reminder to share the luscious love around

Ideas for sharing kindness this holiday season

SHARE THE LUSCIOUS LOVE: Luscious ones, at this time of the year we tend to get busy with shopping and entertaining and enjoying ourselves. Well, I certainly do, especially because the weather gets hot for us in Australia so it’s summer time plus the holiday season at Chez Luscious.

But I thought now was a good time – just prior to Thanksgiving, Black Friday and Cyber Monday, and then Christmas and New Year – to remember to be more compassionate when considering others who are not having such a luscious time of things.

I’m sorry if this sounds trite or patronising or hypocritical in any way. I spend my life being pretty selfish, focussing on my own needs and that of the people immediately around me. I used to volunteer in my 20s and 30s, but life seems to have taken a different course in my 40s. I read and watch stories about terrible things, feel bad for a while, but essentially go back to my own cocooned existence.

But I was reminded by my friend Cathy about the New Day Box program in Melbourne in which you can donate items to go into gift boxes for women going through the hell of domestic violence. See more via their website and Facebook page. I donated some boxes of goodies last year and hope it made some sort of difference.

My friend Melissa shared this post from The Bloggess about having compassion, especially when we watch in horror at what’s happening in Ferguson today. There was a great suggestion about donating to the Ferguson library, and “err in the direction of kindness” which makes me tear up a bit. Read the post here. And perhaps send an email enquiry to the fine folks at the Ferguson library in Missouri if you’re keen about a donation.

Another friend, Davey, was looking into Christmas volunteering, which sounds like a great idea, but do remember than most charitable organisations get their holiday programs sorted months in advance. So if this appeals to you, maybe put it on your list to look into in the new year, and make a financial contribution to assist in the meantime.

Obviously, there are thousands of worthy causes that desperately need attention, so I encourage all of us to do something, whether it’s a $5 donation via a charity’s website, a shout-0ut via social media to spread the word, or by actively getting involved. If you need some inspiration, check out Random Acts because I know they do great work.

Natasha xx

PS. Thanks to all my inspiring friends. You remind me on a daily basis about kindness and compassion.
