ONE TO WATCH: Until a few weeks ago when Awards season kicked in, and we watched 12 Years a Slave, I’d not heard of actress Lupita Nyong’o, and I suspect this is the case for most people.
But after winning the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress as well as impressing us with her stunning Prada gown at the same event, she’s now popping up everywhere.
I’ve been loving her elegant, ladylike style, and her ability to convey kindness, humility, intelligence and talent, just as my style icon Audrey Hepburn did.

Of Kenyan heritage, Lupita was born in Mexico in 1983 where her lecturer-policitian father was working at the time, and she lived between Mexico and Kenya for most of her childhood – commencing her acting career at 14 with a performance in Romeo and Juliet in Nairobi – and then moving to the US to attend college.
She went to Hampshire College, a private liberal arts college in Amherst, Massachusetts, and later Yale University, getting involved in various theatre, television, music video and film productions as a cast or crew member, such as The Constant Gardener starring Ralph Fiennes.
Speaking Luo, English, Swahili and Spanish, she identifies as Mexican-Kenyan, and currently lives in Brooklyn, New York.
Her breakout role was as Patsy in the 2013 film, 12 Years a Slave for which she won numerous awards including the Golden Globe, Screen Actors Guild award, and Academy award.
She’s also secured several fashion editorial features and a campaign with Miu Miu (above).
