The tables: I haven’t had much time to think about Christmas crafts this year but have come up with a green-based theme, with silver, black and white trimmings, so the extended dining table (seating around 20) has a green tablecloth and alternating green/white/silver tealight candles and white roses along the centre, with strings of bright Kelly green baubles.

As I like to keep the tables fairly clutter-free so that people have room to move, I’ve left the bigger candles for the two “utility” tables – we have one for all the food (buffet style) and one for the drinks, glasswares, plates, and extra cutlery. All our china is plain white.

My one main crafty attempt this year is to make a little vignette for each person, with the cutlery, white napkin and bon bon, wrapped up with loose green, black and silver ribbons, attached to a glittery green Christmas tree bauble.
